At the PAC'07 conference, Prizes for Achievement in Accelerator Physics and Technology were awarded to two persons, related to NSU ( http://uspas.fnal.gov/prizewinners.html ). Sergei Nagaitsev is the NSU graduate and one of the directors of Friends... . Yaroslav Derbenev taught at the Accelerator Physics chair special seminars.

This year, Fermilab accepted 12 students from Russia, including 6 from the Novosibirsk State University, to its Internship for Physics Majors summer program. All students are involved in activities related to accelerator physics and technology (see photo)

(Fortune Magazine) -- Time passes slowly in Novosibirsk. In front of the opera house on Red Prospect, skateboard kids skid off the plinth of the Lenin statue. The tilting chimneys of roadside hovels, rusted auto husks and sludge-slicked bus shelters appear to have been slouching into poses over many decades.
At the boat hotel on the Ob River, the cook does not hurry with the kasha. The capital of Siberia, Russia's third-largest city, Novosibirsk in winter offers few explicit charms.
But travel beyond the casinos of downtown, past wild dogs patrolling wild weeds, past Tajik road crews in orange jump suits, and a hub of activity rises from the woodland. Here, capitalist opportunity has overcome post-Soviet drear.

Сообщаю также, что у нас наконец-то появилась семейная пара ФФ + ФЕН: 15сентября зарегистрировали брак студент 4 курса ФФ Алексей Сергеевич Васильев(кафедра физики полупроводников) и студентка 4 курса ФЕН Ольга Андреевна Жукова.

Два последних перевода Андрея и Елены Серых на поддержку такой пары мы ранее не потратили, и сейчас предполагаем помочь Алексею и Ольге из этих средств.

NGU students at Fermi Lab: update

The students are doing well in Fermilab. A week ago, there was a meeting where they presented short summaries of their work (the photo was taken after the meeting and shows them + a couple of students from MPhTI with several advisers). Most of them have made longer presentations at the department meetings.

It becomes cold in Chicago; it's time for them to return to the sunny Siberia ...

Далее, как- нибудь хотелось организовать интернет-мост между Американской диаспорой и НГУ, можно и пофакультетно. Мы попробовали, но не нашли с той стороны организатора точки доступа. Люди готовы поодному выходить на связь, а съехаться в одно место им трудно, а жаль. Видел такой проект в Томске на МБФе - очень впечатляет - на площаде на большом экране час живого общения через океан...

FF Graduates of 1981

On July 1, 2006 graduates of FF- 1981 met in the Alma Mater. Some information is known about ~75% of all graduates. Of those, 54% live in Novosibirsk and nearby and 15% are outside of Russia.

NGU students at Fermi Lab

7 students from FF NGU have started their summer internship at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory near Chicago. The students will be here until the end of September. Many FF alumni, working now at Fermilab, participated in organization of the visit.

Basically since our last transfer we have collected $5652 (Microsoft guys did $2400.5 + $2400.5 match = total $4801, impressive, huh?).
The amount sent is $5590.00
The current balance is $74.00, wire fee is $26 and there are some other back charges ($13.50 for the last 90 days).

The latest news

We’ve got a lot of news to share this time!
First off, we are doing well and there are a lot of things going on.
-We are planning to send our next donation in December, please mail your checks to Friends of the NSU, 6155 Homer Ct, Pleasanton, CA 94588 if you want to participate. Since we are recognized as a non-profit corporation, it’s likely the donations will be tax deductible, please consult with your tax advisor.
- Microsoft match program. Microsoft is well known for its community support programs. One of the programs matches all employees’ charitable donations, dollar per dollar. A group of NSU graduates from Microsoft is taking advantage of the program to support MMF and FF. Great job!
- As I mentioned above, we are sending donations not only to FF but to MMF also.
- We are working on improving the feedback process. We encourage all recipients to send us a brief e-mail with a confirmation. This is not a replacement to our current reporting process but an addition. The goal is to get a better feel and make sure there is a close connection between the donors and the recipients. I’ll post some of the replies under forum section of the site.
Overall, we’re doing well. As always, we want to thank all our donors for their generous support. You contributions do make a difference and are being appreciated! Thank you!

A $3500 donation was sent to NSU!

This time we've managed to send the biggest donation ever - $3500!!! In the past our typical amount was about $1000, the growth is really impressive. How did we make it? There are 2 primary reasons. First, more and more people are joining our campaign. This is a great news and it gives us a hope we are on a right path. Second, Microsoft matches every dollar donated by it's employees to charitable purposes and since we have official non-profit status in the US, we managed to take advantage of the program. We want to say thank you to all friends at Microsoft and especially to Igor Zaika! Another interesting news is that we finally recieved a fist donation to MMF. It means now we are not limited to FF anymore. Overall, you've all done great job! Thanks everyone!
